What I've learned Blogging

Tha' Jewels

My New Favorite Shoes

I was reading Style Klutz the other day and she was talking about how taking pictures of herself for her blog has revealed her love of black and grey. I must admit I realized the same thing ( I was shocked to look in my closet and see all that black and the various shades of grey I've accumulated) but I also found something else. My style is much more trendy and edgy than I ever thought. Reading some of the other blogs I see blazers, slacks and such. I guess I didn't realize how far removed I am from the cooperate / office life. As a hair stylist and boutique owner I really do get to march to the beat of my own drummer. I just didn't realize how much so until recently. That brings me t today's look. This is my take on holiday chic. This is not for a formal gathering, it's more of a casual, comfortable yet chic and totally glam look. Or at least my take on it he he! Big jewelry and purple tights make this outfit pop. While the ruffled sweater give just a touch of romance and femininity. The all black always slims and make you look pulled together. What is your style? What do you look in your closet and see. Take a few pictures of yourself, what do you see? Would you like to change some things or are you lovin' what you see? I'd love to hear your feed back.

Belt it UP!

If there is one thing you can tell about me by reading my blog, it's that I LOVE belts. I just LOVE what they can do for an outfit. I often use belts in my pictures of my vintage pieces to update a shirt or dress and to show the versatility of a piece. A belt can quickly add style and give a different look to an outfit. You can wear a belt right under the breast to create an empire look, this look will help to camouflage the tummy while creating clean feminine lines. A belt can also be worn at your natural waist to accentuate your curves and create a polished look. Also, cardigans, sweaters and jackets can also be belted to instantly update their look. And don't forget the hips. Wearing a belt on the hips, weather on top of an over sized tee or on top of a fitted dress, creates a stylist and edgy new dimension while being quite slimming. Don't be afraid to move the buckle, twist it to the side to create an exciting and unique look. So go ahead and give it a whirl. Try all kinds of belts, wrap belts, skinny belts, thicker belts or what ever your fancy, just try one! Try it up higher than usual, then try it in the middle and lastly push it down on your hips for a different feel. See how adding a belt here or there will add miles to your wardrobe!

More Winterizing

Well as you can see nothing is safe! I'll winterize almost anything. Now this little number is one of my favorite summer mini-dresses but today it served as a tunic. I layered it over some black leggings and my favorite new cheap brown boot ( AJ Wright, $16.99! WOOOHOOOO!) Sorry, I had to get that out, now back to the outfit. I put a chunky brown sweater warmth and a scarf for some pizazz! I also could have layered a turtle neck or a long sleeve shirt inset the dress for more warmth. As you can see almost anything can be winterized so get in your closet and start winterizing, it stretches your wardrobe and your dollar!

BoHo Chic

MMMMMMM, I found this picture and I was immediately put into a trance! I'm in LOVE! I cannot deny it, I LOVE everything about this look. Well almost everything, I would have put on a high heel fringed boot instead of flats. Otherwise from the vibrancy of the turquoise dress to the richness of the rust colored coat to the perfection of the clutch, I find this look to be utterly delectable! I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do.

Vintage Love

I just finished taking pictures for my online store http://www.honeychildsstyle.etsy.com/. Here are a few items I will be listing. I get so excited putting together different looks that show how vintage clothing is so relevant to today's fashion. I absolutely adore the red shift dress it reminds me of Michelle Obama for some reason. I can see it with a pair of basic black tights and a black patent leather platform stiletto. And I can soooo see the black ruffled dress with a sexy black knee boot and a vibrant fuchsia cardigan or maybe some purple tights and a hot little ankle bootie. What about that orange number? Is that boho chic or what? I would throw on a cropped jean jacket, a gorgeous scarf and a delicious chocolate high heeled mary jane with it. OH, the possibilities! What do you think? Can you guys come up with other ways to style these dresses?

Flowers in the Winter

Wearing floral prints in the winter can be a little tricky. It is, after all, winter and who is thinking about flowers in the winter? MEEEEEE! With it being so cold it's kinda nice to think of flowers blooming and warmer days. So, I decided to winterize this little number by adding tights and a pair of my favorite vintage boots in a vibrant red. I chose this dress to winterize because of it's dark color (black). It can be a little difficult (I'd say almost impossible) to do this with a lighter floral print on say, cream or beige, so save the pastel florals for the warmer months and stick with the richer colors for winter and fall. So you wanna try it? Are you bold enough to be a winter flower?

AHHHH SCARVES!!

I'm sorry for my absence, life got a little crazy. But I am back now with one of my absolute style obsessions: Scarves. Oh how I LOVE what a scarf can do for any outfit. They can be dressed up or down and they just add that instant "something". You know what I'm talking about, that touch of perfection. Ah, the extra drama, the extra style, the extra flair! Knowing how to add that little extra is the difference between a look that is boring and a look that makes you stand out a crowd. I have included some pictures of our favorite celebs for inspiration. So let's get the wrapping ladies! Weather it's short, long, printed, plain, wool or silk you can't go wrong with a scarf!
